I’m using relations placed in the product-list sheet rather than in the user-selection sheet. The second inline list uses a filter to display only the selected product-list sheet (empty or not).

I have updated the template above, you can copy it again.
The point is to create a single relationship between the categories from the product list table and the categories in the User selection table to find out user selection. User selection will appear in the filter of the second inline list. Remember to change the source field to the Products list first (see the second image above).
