Updates on Requested Features?

Can we please get a roadmap, or even just a comment, on the following features? Some of these have been requested multiple times but have been “in the works” for 2+ years. Their absence is really starting to cause frustration during development and an overall diminished user experience:

  • Floating button
  • Zoom in / Enlarge action for images
  • TRUE offline mode - actually loads offline
  • Native Glide conversion tool to import data from Google Sheets
  • Ability to change the type of text component in use without having to re-type the input data
  • “Select mode” where we can click on a component in the builder and it highlights the component on the left-hand side of the screen so we can easily locate what we’re working on
  • A native accordion component for lists
  • RTL language setting

Thanks!

UPDATE: also…

*Bring back the option for the Glide theme to override (i.e., NOT match) the user’s system UI theme. I love dark mode and use it exclusively on my phone but my app looks terrible in all black.

Ya. We need all of these.

I don’t understand this one?

Example: I have a significant amount of descriptive text that I want to appear in a specific way in my app, so I select the Text component, then add my text into the data field. After performing this action, I review what it looks like in the builder and realize that the Text component doesn’t present that data in the way that I want it to and it would be better served in a Rich Text component or, perhaps a Hint component, or even a Headline.

Now, I have to re-select another component (i.e., trial and error) and copy / paste the data into that until I find the one that works.

ah, I see.

Question: Why wouldn’t you keep all that text in the Data Editor, either in a text or template column?

Because it can be more cumbersome to keep track of one blurb of text in one table with 50+ columns and 100+ rows than it is to plop the data into one component and put a visibility condition on it.

hehe, okay

I don’t agree (and I would never do that), but there are different ways to work with Glide, and what works for some doesn’t necessarily work for others

Yes, yes, yes, yes. This has been requested and has been sorely needed ever since they removed Google Sheets as possible tables for Templates. Import from CSV does not give us the computed columns!

This being missing has really hurt the “user experience”.

Add CUSTOM UNIT for Number Column in the list. For example I have rows with different types of data like: Weight, Revenue, etc. If I add a $ in units, it will be added to entire column.

I know template column is a fix to that, but if we have 10 number entry columns in 1 table, that will be 10 additional template columns.

We can look up the unit of category and add that in the number entry column for that row.

I’m curious to know what your use case would be for mixing different types of data in the same column?

I was making a goal management app where admin can assign different goals to users in a month. For example

  1. Make $5000 in a month.
  2. Get 100 instagram followers.
  3. Lose 5 KGs weight.

So for every amount that is inputted, I want to have the unit for that category. I have multiple columns like:

  1. Goal
  2. Achieved so far
  3. To be achieved

That’s the reason I was hoping to have a custom unit option so I don’t have to create multiple template columns in this kind of scenario

@NoCodeAndy would you be able to comment on some of these? Or, perhaps, address them in your next Community Digest?

Bring back the ‘Select Mode’ :face_holding_back_tears: :face_holding_back_tears:
:face_with_head_bandage: :face_with_head_bandage:

it’s very time wasting and stressful after every preview to scroll all the way down again to find and select the component to update

Second the " Zoom in / Enlarge action for images" request, when will we see this in the new apps? It’s unnatural UI flow to be taken out of the app and have to visit an image in a separate link to see it larger.

This also affects the new Image Carousel workflow, rendering it completely useless.

Thanks

Bumping this thread - still no comments from anyone at Glide. I’m confused about this new singular focus, pushing to integrate AI into everyone’s apps, when basic features like the ones listed above are missing.

And I get that AI is the newest and shiniest toy but I’m pretty sure that it isn’t going to build us a floating button, zoom in / enlarge our images, give our users a TRUE offline experience, etc. Supremely frustrated with the platform right now. END RANT.

We have 17 engineers at Glide. 1 of them is focused on AI, the rest are working on scaling infrastructure, SOC2, SQL data sources, CRM data sources, bugs, testing, and UI improvements.

  • Floating button

No work planned on this.

  • Zoom in / Enlarge action for images

Not planned.

  • TRUE offline mode - actually loads offline

It’s impossible to load new data offline, but I don’t think that’s what you meant. We’re currently focused on allowing customers to use Glide with their own databases (e.g. SQL), so offline support is becoming even less likely as we support databases.

  • Native Glide conversion tool to import data from Google Sheets

Interesting. This is something we’re discussing. You mean, create Glide Tables from a Google Sheet?

  • Ability to change the type of text component in use without having to re-type the input data

Can you say more? I don’t understand.

  • “Select mode” where we can click on a component in the builder and it highlights the component on the left-hand side of the screen so we can easily locate what we’re working on

Yes, we want this too. I think you’ll see it in the first half of next year.

  • A native accordion component for lists

Can you share an example you like?

  • RTL language setting

Not planned.

(“Not planned” just literally means it’s not on the plans we’ve made for the next 3 months–it doesn’t mean we’re never going to do it, or that we don’t want to do it.)

hehe, I asked the same question

What about triggering actions without needing to press a button? Ie. trigger when a row is created or via API. That would open up a world of possibilities.
