🆕 Please try the new Glide builder

thanks

Guys, this is really very good. A great foundation for the next-gen Glide IDE. Been using this morning and already more productive. For me, one immediate feature missing, can we PLEASE reorder TABLES in the left-hand pane?

Yes, you can. Drag and Drop :stuck_out_tongue:

But yeah, I switched this morning and have been using it today. Still finding my way around it a bit, but already liking it way better than the old one. One minor annoyance is having to move from extreme left to extreme right when selecting/configuring items - think I’d prefer it if the current left and right panels were side by side (I think I recall @Jeff_Hager noting this when it was still in staging), and I agree with him on this.

Drag & Drop on TABLES not working for me? Maybe because mine are Google Sheets not Glide Tables?

Also, agree about the left <-> right movement, especially on a widescreen monitor which this IDE otherwise lends itself to very nicely.

duh, sorry my bad. I was looking at Tabs, not Tables
That’s twice today I’ve stuck my foot in my mouth with drag and drop. Think I need a beer…

It’s 10:50am in the UK and now you’ve made me want a G&T too …

Yeah, that was my main complaint with the new UI. I’m still waiting for muscle memory to kick in, but I feel like I’m bouncing all over the screen to do things. Both visually and physically. I like a lot of it, but it has slowed me down. It just feels like there is a lot of left and right movement just to work on components, whereas the old way kept everything manageable in one location on the screen. In that sense, the old way feels better, but I have 2 years of muscle memory to reset.

It might be fine on smaller screens, but you start getting into wide and ultra wide screens, then the back and forth effect is amplified. I’d much prefer if we could move the panels around. In my opinion, I’d rather see the left and right panels pushed together on the right side, and the emulator on the left.

I had the same thoughts as you.
why not the 2 panels side by side to the left and the display (or preview) to the right.

:100: I agree. There’s a lot to love about the new builder, but i I have to say this one thing is just not intuitive.

Just like the settings panels (which is MUCH improved regarding navigation between menu items)

Ok. I’m now 4 hours in. I love it BUT I do have neck ache from constantly moving left-to-right all of the time. That needs fixing. Otherwise awesome.

Yes, I just noticed that, and that made so much more sense to me.

Get yourself a Mac mini and it won’t be a problem :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s still got a big screen though FFS … clearly you have succumbed to the beer

Though it felt like my brain was flipped (it’s like being used to driving on the left side now you have to drive on the right)… BUT STILL this is awesome!!!

I’m enjoying so much the new layout, but here’s my improvement suggestion:

Between tabs Tabs/Menu, we could have some slight different background color - or a Title with different color. Sometimes I get confused by where I am hovering my pointer

A small detail.
If we can have the name (if available) instead of the email address

EDIT : February 16: Resolved :grinning:

the editor does not keep the current selection.
If you select a component that’s great, but as soon as you click on the workspace (view or preview), the editor automatically selects the tab.
This is a trap that does not exist in the old version.

this undoubtedly corresponds to a logic of selection but if you are not careful, an error occurs quickly.

We plan to make the app preview easier to interact with directly (e.g. a much better Select mode, where you can select and group and rearrange components). You will not click on the Components list on left so much once we do this, and the ping-pong feeling between left and right will abate.
