Hi, i’m new to Glide
While ago I made an action button to share my page with “Link to current screen” and everything was good, but today I noticed that I can’t choose “Link to current screen” anymore, because it just disappeared and I can only choose columns from my data table… (RowIDs are on)
Did this change come with the latest update?
Please help…
@comm_support_agent I can reproduce the issue.
The link to the current screen disappeared since inline templates have been added to the share link action.
Thank you for an answer. So this is bug, right? Or I did something wrong…
I can reproduce the issue. Seems to be like that since inline template is available in share link action.
Taking a look!
This thread has been escalated. Support will follow up via the Messenger in the Builder or through email.
Also having this same issue! What is the solution? Seems really weird that this feature existed, and that now it’s no longer there and has actually stopped my Glide App from functioning the way that it did.
I have users telling me they tried to share links but haven’t been able to! Also no obvious option for me to create a fix
You could maybe add a Template column, select Link to current screen for the text, with no replacements, and use that template column.
That’s definitely one option, with the restriction being that it would require a user to be signed in. If that’s the only option then of course it’s a work-around and better than nothing.
My concern is that there was an action option ‘Link to current screen’, which I was using, and which is still promoted in the Glide docs, that isn’t actually present anymore.
This is an issue if the Glide devs are willing to just remove features that people might be using - resulting in breaking the functionality of my app and making the user experience worse.
Why do you think a user would need to be signed in?
I was assuming that the only way I could then ‘find’ that link/data via the ‘Action → Share link’ selection would be through the ‘Template column’ I had created within the users ‘User Profile’ data.
Otherwise if I’m trying to create buttons to ‘Link to current screen’ for multiple types of content, I would need to create a Template Column for every single table.
Maybe I’ve misunderstood the process though.
Regardless however it seems that I can’t even select ‘Link to current screen’ for the text of the Template Column… what’s going on?
You can place that template column in any table. It doesn’t have to be in the user profile table.
You are trying to set the template value as opposed to the replacement for a template value.
Got it, I was definitely misunderstanding the process!
Thanks so much for your clarification, I have now been able to replace the value with ‘The URL of the current screen’.
I thought the User Profile was the simplest place to store the data, but means the user would need to be signed in. I’ll just have to create this Template Column individually for every table that I might have content that I want to be shared on my pages. Definitely a trade-off, but I think you’re right that this is how I’ll have to set it up now.
If someone is using my Glide App like a web-app on their mobile (saved to homepage) then there is no URL that appears in the browser - so this is the ONLY way for someone to be able to share a link to the page that they’re on.
Kinda disappointing that this ‘Link to current screen’ used to be able to be selected simply from the ‘Data’ options just like I can see in the Template replacements options now - but is no longer accessible like I had originally set it up.
As I said, this is an issue if the Glide devs are willing to just remove features that people might be using - resulting in breaking the functionality of my app and making the user experience worse. I can’t see any communication to tell me that this was being removed - and the Glide docs for ‘Share Link’ AND ‘Deep Links’ both have information for something that seems no longer possible regarding the ‘Link to current screen’.
Completely agree. I also feel that it should be an option directly from the Share Link action. When inline templates were added as a new feature, I do recall that some existing options were left out and Glide had to fix them by adding them back in. I don’t believe that it was in any way intentional to remove the options…rather it was probably just overlooked. It looks like Glide was made aware, but I don’t know if any headway was made. You could report it to support through the chat in the lower right corner of the builder to help push it along.
