Bug Report: iOS 27 / iPadOS 27 – Blur Obscuring Top Navigation in Glide Classic Apps
Hi Glide Team,
Since updating to iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, Glide Classic Apps are displaying an unwanted blur/frosted glass effect at the top of the screen, which obscures the top navigation bar and navigation elements.
This appears to be related to changes in how Apple handles status bars, safe areas and transparency effects in installed web apps (PWAs).
The issue:
- An unwanted blurred/frosted area appears at the top of Glide Classic Apps.
- The blur overlaps the top navigation bar, making navigation titles, buttons and other controls difficult to see or read.
- This negatively affects both the appearance and usability of the app.
- Classic Apps have limited customisation options, meaning developers cannot easily apply CSS or modify the underlying viewport and safe-area behaviour.
- The issue appears to have been introduced following the iOS 27 / iPadOS 27 update.
Possible technical workaround – Fixed element at the top of the viewport
One potential solution worth investigating is a CSS workaround that has been suggested for similar iOS PWA rendering issues.
The approach involves adding a small, fixed-position element at the very top of the viewport, which may prevent Safari/WebKit from applying the unwanted blur effect over the app’s navigation area.
For example:
@media (display-mode: standalone) {
.ios-blur-fix {
position: fixed;
top: 0;
left: 0;
width: 100%;
height: 11px;
pointer-events: none;
background: #ffffff;
-webkit-background-clip: text;
background-clip: text;
}
}
This would require a corresponding HTML element:
The fixed element is intended to influence how WebKit renders the top edge of the installed web app, potentially preventing the unwanted blur from extending over the navigation bar.
This is an experimental workaround, not a verified fix for Glide Classic Apps. It would need testing across iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, including different devices, orientations and navigation layouts.
Because Glide Classic Apps do not provide direct access to the underlying HTML and CSS, this is something the Glide development team would likely need to implement or investigate at the platform level.
Requested fix:
Could the Glide development team investigate and provide a compatibility fix for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, specifically addressing the status bar, safe-area rendering and unwanted blur affecting the top navigation?
Ideally, the fix would:
- Remove the unwanted blur from the top navigation area.
- Restore full visibility of navigation titles and buttons.
- Ensure the navigation bar renders correctly on iPhones and iPads.
- Investigate whether the fixed-position element workaround, or a more robust WebKit-compatible solution, could be implemented centrally.
- Avoid requiring users to change system-wide accessibility settings.
I appreciate that Glide Classic Apps are legacy products, but many businesses and users still rely on them daily.
This is more than a cosmetic issue — it directly affects navigation, readability and usability.
Even if Classic Apps are no longer receiving feature updates, a targeted compatibility fix would be greatly appreciated.
Could Glide please confirm whether this is a known issue and whether a platform-level fix or workaround can be provided?
Thanks!
