🆕 Event Picker

Wishlist: Ability to block certain time ranges.

For example only allow selection between 8am and 5pm or certain days of the week.

Regarding switching weeks, there appears to be a bug. It’s supposed to be a Date picker when you click on the date.

I think the events section is only to show existing events within the Event picker. The title and description would be entered in text components outside the event picker. I don’t see much of a use case, but I think you could technically show events from a completely different sheet or relation compared to the the start and end dates on the sheet you are saving to.

I did that but they don’t show.

Do you have existing bookings for that day?

Yep. The titles show up after I submit, but as I’m filling out the form, they don’t appear.

Separate request: can the little circle to expand the duration be made bigger/easier to grab? I find it requires too much precision and will likely lead to people not changing the default 1 hour duration thinking they can’t. Maybe a more accessible option could include the ability to enter the start and end times as fields…? I really like the slider, but worry about the potential issues.

Edit: this was on my phone — on desktop it’s super simple because I’m using a mouse. On my phone/touchscreen, it’s tougher.

@Mark @david much to celebrate here so first off, thank you.

Question…

I can’t get the event picker component to represent Date/Time values in lookup columns. I’d like to so that I can test the editing existing events experience. So far, I see that X’ing the date wipes the value from GS instantly - good!

The lookups in question are date/time(s) submitted via Glide’s date/time picker (form components) that diplay in GS as 2020-09-17T17:30:00.000Z , and in GE as September 17, 2020, 5:30 PM but 2020-09-17T17:30:00.000Z when you click into the cell.

Is this a limitation or something funky with the date formatting?

Separate, mini-observation:

The current time is 4p and I’m looking to edit an event scheduled for 8:00a tomorrow, Sept 18. Picker will open to Sept 18, but I won’t see the event unless I swipe up. In fact, I only see events after 4p (local app user time). I’m not expecting this to behave like a calendar and allow me to set day start times but it took me a couple of minutes to figure out I wasn’t doing something wrong.

Oooo thats a great idea. Also I know about the issue with the date picker in the builder. This will eventually get fixed but for now we are pretty reliant on the player for that.

I suppose since it’s not written to the sheet yet, there is to title in the sheet for it to pull from.

If you create a template column of the date, it will respect the selected date formatting.

When you tap on the big day text “September 17, 2020”, we open the browser’s native date picker, which works fine on mobile, but many desktop browsers don’t show one. We will implement our own for that purpose in due time.

Everything in “Events” is the data for the existing events that are being displayed. Those can have titles and descriptions. The one that’s being picked only has a start- and end-date/time. We didn’t want to burden this new component with too much responsibility, such as having the user enter a title and description, since those are very dependent on the particular application, and you can already do that in a form. One could argue that maybe the new event should be displayed with a name that’s configurable. We’d take that as a feature request

@Mark I’ve been testing the event picker on glide sheet… There might be a bug. Instead of reading the event title my template is reading the date uploaded.

Some pictures.

You can find it here under bookings demo. It’s the 1st tab from right.

The math rollout is working perfectly.

You have two different columns assigned to E. Sorry that Glide doesn’t catch that error.

I thought it would, but no. Tried that approach in both sheets. Those two Data fields, in that app at least, can’t be mapped to lookup or template columns that have date values.

Wishlist (may include things that others have wished for already):

  • Configure available hours (1000 hours to 1800 hours)
  • Horizontal scroll to go to the future dates
  • Prevent seeing the past dates
  • Visibility of booked events in Calendar (public/private - like in Google Calendar)
  • Color coding of booked events in Calendar (busy, available, etc. - like in Google Calendar)
  • Prevent conflicts at the time of booking

A secondary wishlist:

  • An alternate calendar view that uses the Picker’s view to show the calendar/availability

These are all wishes. Please take your time.

And, thank you! <3

Hello,
Great
Small personal remarks

  1. Editing an existing event is a bit confusing, since it creates a new blank rectangle next to it as for a new entry.

  2. I confirm the message from @Manan_Mehta Impossible to change the week under the edit and in FullScreen
    Google Chrome 85.0 Windows 10

I like the proposals of @_eric & @sardamit
