Feature request: I am loving the ability to monitor/track the number of clicks to a button or list using the new Actions feature and am adding it to my app in about 20 places to track engagement (thank you @Robert_Petitto). My request would be to somehow implement this to the action of opening a tab or using the share button so that I could also track those actions. I’m using this as a bit of overkill atm but by watching what my users are connecting with will help me update the app to give them a better experience, and adding this would help a lot.
Love this idea! Is there a community chat about tracking clicks for the buttons and lists?
Figured it out
Hi @kabookie happy holidays…
What results have you seen from your ‘tracking’ so far, any surprises? Just curious
2 workarounds for this come to my head,
- For the share button, disable the about tab and create your own tab which is a replica, then redirect to the link of you app and increment count using actions.
- For counting users on tab, you can use Google Analytics and I can confirm I get accurate results or you could have some buttons on each tab which are actions which users will surely do if they land on the tab (for example opening the details of a list view)
Set up an action which increments the value on tab count only if it’s the first time the user visits the tab.
But these features natively in Glide will be so much better for sure!
@Manan_Mehta great ideas, as always
Just testing and setting it up now. Will be pushing it out to users next week.
I’m sorry if I got it wrong, but I think you can create an action on the share button including the increment function in a new field to receive these “increments” and finally the share function will open and you will have the number of clicks on the share button .
The only drawback for this is the user clicks the button but ultimately opt to not share the app.
I tried this and technically it works but the “share” icon disappears when the compound action is used. I don’t like this user experience as the familiar sharing icon makes it much clearer.
Hi @kabookie i usually face this issue when i create a compound action, to workaround it i create my own buttons using this free website https://www.clickminded.com/button-generator/ or photoshop it and assign the compound action to it.
So you are basically creating a clickable image that looks like the button you want and takes action - this is a good solution and thanks for the tip for button factory, I am not familiar with that site.
yes, its really a image with an action, you can take it one step further if you are good with photoshop to give the button a click animation. Basically make a copy of your button and washout the colors to ghost it (showing it has been clicked) then use increment and visibility to make one button disappear and other appear.
my other method for sharing is using the new floating button feature like this
assign whatever action you want to it and users easily identify its a share button.
I love that button, but for this app am using it as a “Call me” button - the main function of this app is for lead gen so it works great for that. Sharing is secondary
I use Canva for most everything - they do have an animate feature that works well - might be fun to play with it for this button
+1 for this. I usually use Canva for custom button designs.
Great work, Canva is super helpful.
Just another Idea i use, i have a image template with button dimensions and change icon as required (copy, share etc) and then use the ‘Tag’ field to fill in my text manually or set from table.
Button template here, incase anyone would like to customize and use it:
So do I! Actually all my designs are made there & LunaPic to remove background/crop/resize and so on
Edit: I prefer LunaPic instead of RemoveBg because LunaPic keeps the original image size to remove bg
+1 lunaPic
