you can add bluetooth barcode scanners as they just act as input devices. i did this for a while when I had an app on a pc for inventory counts. I imagine other devices would work as well.
@Drearystate yip that sounds like what I want. We have bluetooth scales & need to send weights across to the app.
Just make sure they are setup as input devices and you should be good to go.
Did you learn anything more? I too would really like to add my own custom sound effects to the existing list.
We donât have an option yet for that.
O.k. Thank you for letting me know.
This is a device I have been using along with Glide for all my Inventory management clients.
The barcode scanner on this simply acts as an input device while we can also run Glide apps on the same device.
Itâs a great replacement to phones+bluetooth barcode scanners because that needs 2 hands to be used at the same time which is highly inconvenient in a warehouse. If you want to see how I use Glide for inventory management, I will create a video and share.
@Drearystate @ThinhDinh @Brad_Legassick
the good news is now we dont have to purchase additional scanners once they release the barcode scanner
Yes please. So you access Glide from that device?
But you could buy a $20 budget phone and connect it to the wifi and use that.
Thatâs true. But in some of my clientâs cases, they use these in warehouses which need long range and high speed scanners for which mobile phone scanners are not competent enough. In those cases, this is the device I found best!
And they chose to use a Glide App? Donât get me wrong we do the same but it is because The company I work for wanted a inexpensive solution. I wasnât an outside vendor selling a Glide productâŚthat feels wrong.
@Manan_Mehta thanks for sharing. I would love to see what you are using for inventory. Cheers
So how it works is:
- Most clients use an ERP system like SAP to maintain their inventory levels etc.
- Most ERP systems do not have a user friendly mobile version which can be used in the actual warehouse for scanning and picking inventory.
- To make this process as smooth as possible for the warehouse personnel (who are usually not highly skilled in India) we create a very simple GlideApp which directly connects to a pick list.
- The connection is made via a JDBC connection from the original database to a Google Sheet.
Basically Glide fills in the gaps to make the complete process seamless.
To address this, I usually work as a consultant and provide the best possible options to make a perfect workflow and clients do not care whatâs used if their end process is becoming simpler. And I strongly feel Glide is highly competent for my use case.
PS: My clients are SMEs in India who have never considered having their own app for inventory management and they do everything manually.
AhhhâŚyes, we have similar issues, our inventory system does not have anything to work with so instead of paying the 200k for devices and servers and hotspots we used glide. Donât get me wrong, I see plenty of people on Glide Forums that I think use Glide to make a living and I do not frown upon that in any way whatsoever and I think nothing less of them. I just feel differently about it I guess. Thats why I give away everything I make. And at my job I am responsible for our Glide Apps just because my job is Solutions and Software Development. It was an easy way to make a prototype that they didnt want to deviate from.
This is a very old video which consists of a native app that we created before we found Glide
(Itâs been replaced with Glide now)
Sorry for the poor video editing quality but it gives you a brief idea of what we achieved and how Glide can help.
It also shows the use of the device I previously mentioned.
Maybe the dabbawalas could use something like this?
So do you work here as well? What do you guys use to feed the pick lists into the Google Sheets?
Thanks for the insights @Manan_Mehta.
