I have three Data Sheets. 1.) Struggles 2.)Help and 3.) Resources
The idea is that you pick your struggle. Let’s say Anxiety and it brings you to your 2nd screen Type of Help You pick one of three and it brings you to the resource page that matches the first two request. The resource data sheet has everything but i was hoping to filter down to just the ones that match the first two choices. Although every time I try it applies to all not just based on the first two choices. Anyone have any idea what I’m doing wrong or am I above FREE capabilities?
Can you show some screenshots of your works? Relations, columns and column types, etc please?
There are a number of ways to handle this but here’s the most straightforward:
-
In your Users table add 2 fields “User_Struggle_ID” and “User_Type_ID” (these names are for clarity later)
-
In your Resources table add 2 fields (Struggle_ID and Type_ID)
-
In your Resources table, for each row, add the Struggle_ID value from the Struggles table, and the Type_ID from the Help table that categorize what type of Struggle the resource in that row is for, and what type of Help it offers.
-
In the Layout editor create a New → Screen from data → Struggles
-
Format the Struggles collection into whatever layout you want
-
Go to the Actions tab for the Collection, turn off the default Add and Edit actions, and click on “Enable advanced actions”
-
Go to ITEM CLICK and change the dropdown to “Workflows for Struggles”, then select “Create new workflow…”
-
In the workflow that gets auto-created, change whatever default action it put there to Data → Set column values. In the Row dropdown, change “This item” to User Profile → User profile row
-
Go to the User_Struggle_ID field in the list of Users fields and set it to “Struggle_ID”
-
Add a new action to the workflow, and change it to Interaction → Show new screen. Set the screen Data dropdown to “Help”
-
Go back to the Layout editor and click on any item in your Struggles collection. It will now open a new screen listing the Types of Help. Format the collection however you want it to look.
-
Go to the Actions tab for the Help collection and once again turn off the default actions and enable Advanced Actions. In the ITEM CLICK section once again, select Workflows for Help → “Create new workflow…”
-
Create the exact same workflow as the last time, but this time set User Profile → User_Type_ID to Type_ID, and tell the second action to navigate to a new screen whose Data is “Resources”
-
Back to Layouts. Click on any item in the Help collection. In the new Resources screen, go to the Options tab for the Resources collection.
-
In the FILTER DATA section, click on “+ Add Filter”, and then add two filters: One that filters for “Struggle_ID equals User Profile->User_Struggle_ID” and another that filters for “Type_ID equals User Profile->User_Type_ID”
Now as you click on each table it will store the choice in the Users profile, and will filter the results in the Resources screen based on what was chosen in the previous screens.
Thank you so much for your generous help! I’m still having trouble though. I’m thinking about just starting over from scratch at this point. Is there any chance you might charge a small fee to set it up for me? And at that point will I still be able to add resources as I find them?
Hey Reed,
Yes, I could help you with that.
Go to your Profile → Preferences → Chat and enable chat so I can send you a direct message.
I went into profile and preferences but can not find Chat?
Never mind… I think I finally got it! Thanks again for all your help.
LOL Ok new question.. What if you want more than 1 Struggle ID to show up at the same resource?
In the data editor, you can set the relation column to Match Multiple
Thanks for all your help made great progress today. Next I’m wondering what to do about the “blank icon squares” where do I load the icons?
I really recommend that you take a look at the Glide University, believe me, it’s super fun! And you will learn a lot in no time.
If you click on the circle with the R in it in the top right, it opens a menu. At the bottom of the menu is a person icon that is your profile. In the profile page that opens is a Preferences tab, and in that tab is a Chat tab.
Mine does not have the Chat Option to the right of Navigation. Any idea why?
@Darren_Murphy they are talking about the discourse chat.
I have account preferences but I don’t see account settings and therefore do not see privacy?
