Image Generation Not Working

Hello Glide Commuity so i’m tring to build Artifical Intelligence platform where it generates imgaes in a playgroud and i’m running into a big problem. I have the “Generate Image” colum set up, but instead of getting the generated AI artwork, it just shows a dang placeholder with triangles. What is up with that? It’s not generatng any images at all. Has anyone else had this happen? Really frustrated and need to get this working but idk what the issue is

This is a generated image with triangle based on a salt. In this case, the salt is the “from” field.

I understand this is confusing, but as Maxime said, this column is for generating a random SVG with the seed being your “from” text.

There’s no native “text to image” in Glide now, you have to use an API call to do so.

What? :rofl::rofl::rofl:

So I’ve ben trying to build this artifical intelligence thing with the colun saying it generates images but just some dumb TRIANGLE SVG PLACEHOLDER?!?!?!?!?!? What are you guys even doing? This is so bad. I have to use some random API call just to get actual images??? I thought glide was supposed to make things easy not make everything 10x harder. Seriously this product sucks. Fix your stuff glide!! You literally wasted my time. Why even have a “generate image” column if it doesnt do anything useful?

No need to comment using multiple accounts. Nobody is wasting your time. You are trying to use something in a way it was never intended to be used. This column is literally generating what it says it will generate, which is triangles or mesh. That’s it. This column has existed long before AI as we know it was even a thing. It is not an AI column in any way, shape, or form. You choose either triangles or mesh and give it a seed value to get a unique pattern based on that seed value.

Also, this is a user forum. Don’t be hard on fellow users (not glide employees) that are just trying to help.

Oh wow, really? You think I’m using multiple accounts?? :roll_eyes::roll_eyes: The only thing that’s getting wasted is my time trying to use a column that’s supposed to generate images but ends up giving me mesh and triangles! Seriously, just because it’s been around forever doesn’t mean it’s useful for anything! :man_facepalming: I’m not trying to use it in some ancient way, I’m just trying to get this actual image thing to work! And don’t give me that “this is not an AI column” nonsense, the whole point is to generate images, but now I’m supposed to just be fine with triangular shapes because it’s always been like that? Ridiculous.

Also, I’m not being hard on users, but seriously, if you’re gonna defend this broken feature, don’t act like I’m the problem here. Maybe I’m not the one who needs help, maybe it’s the product that needs fixing. :face_with_steam_from_nose:

The Generate Image column does indeed generate images. It’s a computed column, where as an input you select one of the other columns, and as an output it generates either triangles or meshes.

It’s quite useful. I use it to create default images for user profiles. If the user uploads their avatar, then I use their submitted image. If not, I use a generated image, generated from the row ID of the user. This guarantees that each generated image is unique since row IDs are unique.

There are things you might not understand in life, this does not automatically discredit them. (This applies to everyone for most things of course.)

So the column does indeed do exactly what is describes: it generates triangles or mesh based on an input. Nothing more and nothing less.

Nonsense or not, the Generate Image column is not in the group of columns that are specifically AI columns. Sure, “generate” these days is easily associated with AI, because of the hype of AI and the meaning of the term. It seems your bias is playing unfortunate tricks on you. One would expect a “Generate Image” column in the AI group to in fact generate images based on a prompt. But “Generate Image” is not an AI column, it’s a computed column. The mistake is easily made, no biggy, but it is what it is. You might not grasp the difference, it doesn’t mean it’s not there.

The product can be improved all over the place. This place is probably not one of them. If you do have suggestions, everyone is free to submit feature requests, feel free to submit your own.

There are a handful of people in this forum without whom the forum would not be what it is. They basically are the heart and arteries of the forum. Jeff is one of those people, he almost single-handedly is and embodies this forum. It’s a shame you chose to express your frustration from behind a screen with anger rather than in a more respectful and constructive manner.
