Short answer is:

  • If you need users to view each other’s profiles: then have a profiles tab, go to the layout’s feature settings, filter the tab by email is signed-in user.

  • If you don’t need users to view each other’s profiles: set the email column as row owner.

Got it was setting it the TAB level not layout features level
