Scan documents

Hi I am trying to figure out if I can do document scanning through glide.
ideally I would be able to do several things

  1. the user selects an option from a drop down list (I already figured out this part).
  2. the user uses the camera on their phone to scan a document and it is saved as a pdf.
  3. the document is automatically edited to add the selection from 1 and some other data.
  4. the document is automatically emailed as an attached pdf to a specific email address that does not change.

the document does not need to be stored after it is emailed but it has to be as a pdf file

does anyone know if this is possible and how I would be able to do it?
thank you so much

thank you for your help Deena,

I know there is a way to scan pdf documents with other apps like notes, adobe scanner, google drive, etc then upload them to glide.

unfortunately this is fairly similar to what we are already doing. We need to do this to submit receipts to be paid and the current process takes 5 or 6 steps and is often done wrong. I am trying to reduce the number of steps needed to only 1 so that there will be fewer mistakes.

is there a way to scan a pdf inside glide itself?

This isn’t something I’ve played around with in Glide - I just remembered this thread addressed a similar question. I’m sure if @Wiz.Wazeer or @ThinhDinh have any other ideas, they can share, but I don’t think you can do it as you’ve described. :upside_down_face:

Does it need to be a PDF? Since it’s just receipts, could it be kept as an image? If so, then you can just use the image picture to take a picture and upload it. Otherwise I think the other post was hinting at uploading an image, the let a script, or Zapier, or Integromat take over on the sheet and process the image and additional data into a PDF, then send it. There is no built in functionality within glide to dynamically generate a PDF and auto send an email.
