Push notifications via OneSignal or other 3rd party?

Big bummer push notifications are no longer available (however they were). Anyone successfully implemented notifications via a different route such as OneSignal?

Afraid I’ll have to build on another platform if no alternatives exist

Hey @dkang I’m in the same boat, all my clients want push, I have tried all of the third-party offers but they all need a small (usually Java) snippet in the head code and that is not available in Glide at this time. I’ve resorted to the twillio integration and using SMS / MMS, it works well but the downside is there is a cost to that .

Not the answer anyone wants to hear, but maybe consider taking the high road?

Notifications are like sugar: they taste great but they’re bad for you. Really they don’t taste anything, they just trick signals in your brain. Sugar will give you diabetes, cancer and a slew of other nice things; notifications are just as bad.

The world would be a better place without those two. So maybe we could all not implement notifications, even if and when they become available.

(And how is one supposed to express such an opinion without sounding totally professorial?)

Nice sentiment, BUT sugar (glucose) is also essential for proper body function, especially the brain… and implemented properly, notifications can proove to be just as essential in a mobile app.

How many of the apps on your phone have notifications? I would guess many of them. Notifications & Alerts are expected in today’s mobile implementations which is why it’s a common feature of many apps in use today.

I’d love to see this capability return as a native Glide feature someday, but until then the exploration of the best 3rd party notification solution to integrate with Glide is underway. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yep, just about all of them. And every single one of them is disabled. I’m with @nathanaelb, I refuse to allow my phone to rule my life. But then again, I’m a grumpy old bugger on a good day :slightly_smiling_face:

I world without devices and alerts and notifications sounds good to me. But let’s look at the bigger picture.

How does one know they have received an email? A SMS, a tweet, a whatsApp message, a missed call, (I could go on forever)

Unless we are sitting and watching our inbox or starring at our phones or computers 24/7 we won’t know something has changed without a notification. So now a Glide application I spent a great deal of energy building is almost ready to be relaced and shut down because Glide has brushed aside the importance of Glide app users and developers to have the ability to notify when an event has occurred.

So the current option is. Send an email?

The irony is that to know I have received an email I need a notification.

Let’s look at the things that Glide developers are asking for. Requesting… I see mostly common sense basic functionality requests.

And look at what Glide is delivering. AI this, AI that, AI Flows, AI Automation. Then asking us to build something and showcase it. I’m sure these are great tools, but take a breathe and look at the basics of what an App NEEDS.

Unfortunately I couldn’t wait any longer for Glide to act on Push notifications and I feel I’m not alone.

One knows that they have received an email when they check their email. I check mine at least once every 2 or 3 days. It works quite well.

Correct. And that’s a problem because…?
I live my life without notifications. It seems to work okay, as far as I can tell. But maybe I’m missing out on something

Well said, and I tend to agree.

This isn’t about what you or I like or dislike or how we would like to view or engage with the world. This is why strict rules apply to these notifications and which of them you choose to accept or decline.

This is about Glide Apps having no option and I am just trying to express my concern that if they don’t act, they won’t need to worry about falling behind on the AI front, they will need to ask where it all went wrong.

Glide users are trying to get their message across and it is not getting through…

Maybe a notification to the management is in order :joy:

Thanks all for the confirmation and insightful discussion

Perhaps the Glide team needs push notifications for all these disgruntled builders

See you all on Bubble or FlutterFlow

My only problem is that most clients or investors think that notifications are just a standard tool that an app company (me) has at its disposal because they are a ubiquitous part of the mobile world. I’m just a small start-up, but we are beyond pre-revenue and have a small group of investors looking for our business to grow. My app is a subscription model so daily usage (stickiness as they say) is a very important number when you are out looking at another round so the conversation naturally turns to, “Why don’t you use notifications to give people a reminder” you then have to scramble to find a solution that will accommodate that. Even at a modest 2000 users getting only 3 a month that’s $300 a month on Twillio I have to find. Don’t get me wrong, I am Glide through and through, It is far and away beyond everything else out there, but if the team could look at an opportunity for an integration or solution, it would be amazing.

I’m not qualified to speak technically on this, but it was not like they didn’t try to find a way to do it. They did it for a while, it was so unstable (partly because of OS problems). I decided not to deploy it to any apps, and after a while they decided not to do it anymore.
