In classic mode, in CARD mode, we could place an image behind the information.
For example: a date on and in the center of a green background. Is this no longer possible in the new model?
Is there any way to get around the lack of this functionality?

Yes, this is not a native option anymore.
From your screenshot, it looks like you’re on a Free plan? Maybe CSS can help with this, but it’s not available on the Free plan.

Try using custom collection components and richtext components. The richtext component still allows you to write CSS inline.
