I have my app . I have made all new spreadsheets to clean things up a bit and make my work flow better.
Q. Can I use the (NEW) app that was created when I change to the newer version of glide to use my new sheets and get it all designed? Then when its all together, Publish it!
Q. If so will that over ride the existing published app?
Q. Also will it change my special link I have set up on existing app? Note: I don’t want to have to send out a new link to existing members of my app, I just want it to load for them as if I just did a minor update. Please advise and TIA
Each app is independent of all others. The only consideration is if both apps share the same data source. In that case you need to be careful when changing or removing any basic columns that could be used in the old app as you don’t want to break the existing published app.
If you are referring to Google sheets as your data source and you want to switch to a new Google sheet, you should be able to do that within the app Settings>Data section. Just be mindful that all of the columns need to align from old to new sheet so it works smoothly.
If you want to maintain the same url:
If you have configured a custom domain, then you will need to configure through the domain provider to refer to the new app.
If you are just using the glide.page domain, then you will need to unpublish the old app to free up the subdomain and apply it to your new app and publish.
Neither will happen automatically.
If you are still using a glideapp.io domain, just know that is not available anymore for new apps.
Yes, the link would remain the same. It’s your call if you want to go that route. Probably not something I would do. I’d be hesitant to make such a drastic data source change with an existing live app, especially if you’ve changed the column layout. I would at least want a backup copy if something goes wrong, or try it on a backup copy first to see how it goes. I assume there would be some downtime trying to manage a rebuild on top of an existing app.
This would be a while lot safer route to go. You didn’t clarify if it’s a custom domain or a regular Glide domain, but will assume it’s a Glide domain. Like I said in my previous post…
You are just changing the app url on the old app or unpublising it to free up that subdomain. Then apply it to the new app when ready. Not really anything boo complicated about that.
