Hello Friends,
Glide does not work if using a VPN
Is this normal?
No, it’s not normal and it should work.
Try disconnecting from your VPN and reconnecting.
It works when I turn off my VPN. But I can’t ask users to turn off their VPN to use the app
Is it a company VPN or or a public VPN to hide your location? The issue is going to be if the other end of the VPN allows a connection to Glide servers. If it’s a company VPN, then your IT staff would have to open something up on their end.
Just to say I constantly use Glide on a corporate VPN without issues. I use it to program Apps. I’m also an end user of Glide apps. No issues.
Thanks Simon, Jeff.
Maybe it’s my browser (Brave, I use a of of plugins for privacy ?)
It could be. The way to determine that would be to first disable all extensions and see if it works. If it does, then enable them one by one until you identify the one that is causing a problem.
By the way, you didn’t answer Jeff’s question:
Corporate VPN’s often have very strict firewall policies, so if you are using a corporate VPN, there is a good chance that is the cause.
I think the browser answered the question. More of VPN to hide someone’s identity or spoof a location compared to a corporate VPN which provides a private connection over a public network to private resources.
It’s always bothered me that the term VPN has become synonymous with “spoofing” or “hiding” one’s identity. Especially when there is no control over the other end of these public VPNs, so there is no absolute guarantee that anything you do is actually private. It’s more of a proxy that just makes it appear that your external activity is coming from somewhere else. To me a VPN means you can securely and privately access Private data or devices over a public network.
I have a personal VPN to connect directly to my home network from anywhere in the world and access internal network devices or access files on my server, which are not accessible to the internet. I also have a corporate VPN on my work computer so I can access the mainframe or other corporate resources for my job. To me a VPN is having control from end-to-end to create a virtual private network over a public connection. I feel like the VPNs that most people use should have a different name. Maybe a virtual proxy or something like that.
Sorry…my mini rant was not directed towards anyone. Just wanted to share my frustration. (It also bothers me when people call a battery a generator, but that’s a rant for another time. )
What people call a battery a generator? I need that rant!
Hehe, I’m talking along the lines of Ecoflow, Bluetti, Jackery, etc. Some people call those generators, but in my mind a generator contains an internal combustion engine.
Your mind is correct - the panel is the generator and the battery is…the battery!
Those company’s marketeers were working overtime to come up with this ‘spin’
