I haven’t tried the chat feature and wanted to know if it has the ability to upload pictures / documents on it?

You mean the Chat Tab?
No, it has very limited functionality. I think people that need chat functionality generally either build their own, or use one of the templates available in the Template Store.
There is also the Community Built messenger, that is available for free.
