Airtable's single select field?

Hi everyone, I already searched here in the community as well as online, but couldn’t find the answer to my issue. I have connected my Airtable bases, but single select fields (aka dropdowns) don’t get created as dropdown fields under data.

Can someone explain why? Given people the option of selecting from a predefined dropdown seems to be a basic feature for me, so maybe I’m just missing something.

Thanks in advance!

Airtable is just providing data to glide. I’m guessing that glide doesn’t even see that it was a single select column in airtable, so there is no way for glide know that you wanted it to be a choice component. Plus, when glide initially generates a screen for you, I don’t think there would be an easy way for them to guess if you wanted a choice component or even how to configure it. So, is just a matter setting up a choice component yourself.

I don’t know how those single select columns work in airtable, but I assume you have to have some kind of source for your list of choices?

If you want to create a choice component in glide, then all you have to do is add the choice component, select whichever table contains your list of choices, select the column that contains your choices, and then set the destination of that choice.

This is why it would be awesome if we had a “choice” column type.

Thanks, @Jeff_Hager ! Yes, I’ve now figured out as well that a choice field doesn’t exist (which is a big difference coming from Airtable).

Re. your point “Airtable is just providing data to Glide”: I’ve done quite a lot of work with the Airtable API and when requesting data, Glide sees the field / data type, so would see that a given field is a single select and would also see the options.

But that doesn’t really matter as that field then doesn’t exist, so translating the in Airtable selected dropdown option into a textfield makes sense for now I guess.

Thanks!

Seems logical coming from Airtable :stuck_out_tongue:
