Ads on videos hosted via YouTube?

Anyone hosting there videos on YouTube, are you experiencing any advertisements in your glide app OR not?

Thanks

I haven’t used it in any of my apps yet, but the University of Glide is hosted on YouTube, and I have never seen an ad while studying.

I think it depends if the video is monetized or not.

Jeff is correct.

How ads show on videos you monetize - YouTube Help.

Ads on embedded videos - YouTube Help.

YouTube shows ads on videos that have monetization enabled by the creator. If a video is not monetized, ads generally will not appear, regardless of where the video is embedded.

For embedded videos, YouTube applies the same ad settings as it does on YouTube.com. If the video owner has enabled ads and is part of the YouTube Partner Program, ads can appear both on YouTube and in any app or website where the video is embedded—including Glide apps. There is no way to disable ads only for embedded videos if monetization is on; the only way to prevent ads is to turn off monetization or disallow embedding entirely.

My tip is:

  1. Don’t use YouTube if you can avoid it. Best option is to save the video as 720p format, which has a file size of around 25Mb for a couple of minutes at decent quality. You can then upload the file directly into the App (use a basic Image column to upload, then change the column to a URL column to see the link) then display the video using the native Video component pointing to the URL.

  2. If you must use YouTube, create an account in which 100% of your videos have the privacy setting ‘only viewable with link’. This tends to suppress adds and prevents the site serving up other videos on your channel.

  3. Use Vimeo. This is the pro hosting for videos and allows you to prevent ads.

Thank you all. I have decided to use Vimeo on my current and future apps.
