When will automation arrive?

is there a timeline for the availability of a native glide automation editor? it was mentioned during gliding into the new year in both 2022 and 2023. Thanks!

Can you clarify what you mean by ā€œnative Glide automationā€? Do you mean time-based actions?

Glide doesnā€™t make a habit of sharing ETAs for upcoming features. Iā€™m guessing it will roll out Q3.

Weā€™re working on it now. Can you tell me how you would use it?

Wow!
Exactly wee need cycling.
Wait conditions awaiting for text in text column appear( Simple scanning barcode by handy scanner)
Then set column computation result to some where, clear text column, show notification and hopeful play custom sound, then return to awaiting again.

Adding in loops/iterators to actions and automation timing would be a game changer. Currently I would use it for inventory reports and notifications and updates to different items. Right now I am leveraging Make(Integromat) heavily for these functions.

We need:

  1. Cron actions (every Monday at 8:00 EST, do this)
  2. Catch webhook actions (when external webhook is caught, do this)
  3. Looping actions (given a multiple relation, do this for every related record)
  4. Conditional branches later in action sequence

Better said than I. The follow on conditionals would be another game changer.

Really excited about this as I understand it. I like the the order of priority in Bobā€™s list.

Currently the action trigger is a ā€˜user interactionā€™. For me, the thing that would make biggest difference is a time-based trigger, which could use a date a a record (watch records).

Use case Iā€™m thinking of is sending a push notification to the user to remind them they have an appointment today, so the trigger is time-based but uses a date/time field on that appointment record. Then bring the user back to the magic in Glide with a deeplink

I find Airtableā€™s triggers work well, and I sense from other posts that we might see more adoption of glide tables from Airtable if those automations could be handled in glide.

Triggering automations through timed events would be incredible. Time of day, day of the week, date of the month, etc. It would be outstanding if actions could be triggered based on location as well! Arriving to a destination could send a push notification, set a column value then automatically open to a specific page of your app based on the event type and details.

Theres so many use cases to this type of functionality, itā€™s ridiculous. Automation is the ONLY reason it took me so long to get away from Google Sheets in the first placeā€¦ Iā€™ve been using that as my database for 7 years, itā€™s the one thing I miss and by far the feature I used more than anything else. I just recently switched 100% to Glide Tables, took me like 6 weeks to get everything moved overā€¦ still havenā€™t gotten everything working as good as I had it before.

My update count was through the roof though, so I made the decision to move everything to avoid all of the updates my sales team has been burning throughā€¦ only to find out today that all of the updates are still counting towards my app, which means I basically did all of that work for nothing, still incredibly pissed about it.

Nonethelessā€¦ Glide is already such a unique and diverse tool, but having autonomous actions and triggers would make it an insane competitor in the space of No-Code solutions.

ā€¦just following up on the OG question from @Carolyn_Chen - does the Glide team have a heads up on when we might expect native automations?

I donā€™t think we have an ETA, like Bob said above. David confirmed theyā€™re working on it though.
