Working on some planning features, I could use some advice/input.
Automated planning
Firstly: I want to be able to automatically plan workorders on available times in the workshop schedule (let’s assume 1 employee for now). Has anyone ever done this and/or does anyone have any thoughts on how to go about this?
So far I’ve done this using AI, but I was wondering if anyone has other suggestions for this:
- Provide a list of unavailable slots (busy times) by getting the start till end dates for each planned job and combining these into one field (query, template, joined list etc).
- Provide the expected duration of the workorder. Provide planning constraints in the prompt.
- Have AI put out a list of 5 available slots in JSON format. The user can then select one of these. Next step could be to have AI choose the first available slot, but the first step was to keep a human in the loop.
If there are no other suggestions on how to do this, I may have to turn this first one into a project showcase 
.
Availability of replacement transport for date range
Secondly: I want to be able to plan temporary replacement transport/vehicles based on availability. So imagine this:
- A customer brings their vehicle in for a repair, needs a temporary replacement.
- Employee has 10 replacement transport vehicles, but needs to see which are available from when to when (date-ranges).
- Here comes the challenge: based on the expected duration of the repair (could be 3 days, could be 3 weeks), automatically show ONLY the vehicles that are actually available during the repair period.
- Things to take into account: a vehicle might be reserved for week 1, be available in weeks 2-3 and be reserved for week 4.
- Adding a slight extra challenge (edgy edge case): for some repairs the end term is unknown:).
