Iâm currently working on an app called âCamp2Nightâ, inspired by Park4Night, but with a cleaner, more modern and user-friendly design.
The idea is to help motorhome and campervan travellers find overnight parking spots through an interactive map, with information such as safety ratings, facilities, vehicle restrictions, photos, reviews and filters.
Iâve already started building it in Glide, including the database and map, but Iâm finding it quite challenging to make everything look professional and work smoothly.
Before investing more time, Iâd love to hear from experienced Glide developers:
Is it realistically possible to build a professional app like Park4Night using Glide, or would I eventually run into too many limitations?
Iâd really appreciate any advice or examples of similar apps built with Glide.
Yes, everything is possible if you put enough time and resources into it, but why? Unless you want to prove to yourself that you can do it using Glide, thereâs no real benefit in doing it here.
Are you using Glide Classic (nocode builder) or GlideOS (AI builder) for your project?
Glide Classic shines when you want to build internal business apps. I would avoid building broad market consumer-facing apps on Glide Classic, the features and pricing of the platform arenât suitable for that.
As far as I understand GlideOS, you can build any type of application there (even though Glideâs historical focus is internal business apps). So you could give it a try.
Still, the main question remains⊠Why? GlideOS is a joke. Itâs extremely slow and expensive. You can build something much faster for free in any other AI chatbot.
GlideOS fills the needs of an audience, that alone is enough to say that it is a valuable product. Hopefully for Glide the company, it will also be successful commercially. If you are not the audience, thatâs fine, but no need to criticise the product or the audience.
You mention âany other AI chatbotâ. Any other AI chatbot might not offer storage, hosting, authentication, scaling, continuous integration and development, content deployment, team management, and so on ⊠out of the box. GlideOS does.
You mention âextremely slowâ. Iâm not convinced.
You mention âexpensiveâ. Iâm not convinced this means much in the world of software. I think I could quite convincingly argue (convincingly in my opinion only) that Apple, Microsoft, and SAP products are both âexpensiveâ and of pretty poor quality. Yet a lot of companies and people swear by them. Maybe expensive solutions are expensive for a reason? The only reality that exists is what the market perceives.
Iâm not here to argue, but your criticism doesnât seem very founded and Iâm not convinced it brings much value to the discussion.
Hola Codice y gracias por tu respuesta. Simplemente quiero preguntar si es posible crear una app como la mencionada ya que no soy un experto. Lo he intentado pero lo encuentro bastante complicado hacer una app. Voy necesitar ayuda. Alguna sugerencia? Gracias. Dan
You can actually build your own apps using any free AI coding assistant and a free server with SQL, and the result can be faster, cheaper, and much more flexible.
You can even start without a server at all, using a local database on your own computer. Just give the AI your idea, let it generate the code, and run the app locally. No monthly fees, no platform limitations, and you have full control over your code.
Itâs worth trying a small project and comparing the results yourself. You might be surprised how much you can do for free!
And honestly, even a completely free setup can give you more than a Glide Pro plan. And if you go crazy and spend just $1â$6 a month on hosting, you can build an absolute monster that even a $2,000 Glide plan wonât be able to match in speed, security, data, flexibility and control⊠lol!
I like you a lot, man⊠Iâve been watching you over the years. GlideAI is a joke. I really hope that one day youâll try running a full stack on your own server. These days, it can cost you literally $0, and AI can do pretty much everything for you. When you finally give it a try, come back and admit that holding on to all this old stuff makes absolutely no sense anymoreâŠ
