I’m already thinking in my head of a way to have a single floating button blow out into multiple floating buttons when clicked. Like a sort of side menu.

Ah, yes! With visibility conditions. You could make the icon a menu icon, and when a user clicks the icon, it increments a field, and menu button is only shown if field is empty, and other buttons are shown when field is not empty. Hah, GENIUS!
