Glide Next: Workflows replay + Q&A

Hello Gliders!

We held our first Glide Next session of the year today, showing you how to build automations in Glide with Workflows.

The full recap – with replay and slides – is available on our site:

You can also find a shorter version on our YouTube channel:

Workflows Q&A

Chat was buzzing with questions throughout the session. Highlights:

What advice do you have for getting started with Workflows?

  • One of the safest ways to get started with Workflows is by performing tasks that are “read only”.

  • For example, you can use Glide AI to format structured data into a notification, then send that to your team via Slack message or email every morning. This lets you get comfortable with Workflows without running the risk of creating unnecessary data.

  • If you are creating new data, e.g. by adding a row or working with loops, you can set a low limit (e.g. 1). Do that until your workflow is working as expected, then expand to 10 rows, 100 rows, and so on.

How do Workflows in Glide compare to other automation tools?

  • Workflows complete Glide’s “trifecta” as an all-in-one platform alongside Data and Layout. We believe that this will make it easier to quickly build, deploy, and manage solutions for your team.

  • If your Glide solution needs automations, you should always start with Workflows, because they’re native to Glide and tightly coupled to your app’s data.

  • Workflows can still connect to 3rd party automation tools through our native integrations, i.e. Zapier and Make, as well as through webhooks and APIs. Think of these as extensions for edge cases that aren’t covered by Workflows.

Will new Workflows education and certification be available?

  • Yes! Look out for announcements in the coming weeks about additional documentation and resources in Glide Docs and Glide University.

  • Keep in mind that we’re in the very early days of Workflows. The team is still fine-tuning everything and locking in the details. That includes specifics around row limits, update consumption, integration support, etc.

Will new triggers be added?

  • Yes. In fact, if you watch the replay, you’ll notice we’re already experimenting with a Slack trigger. Expect more triggers to come this year.

Can Workflow templates be shared like app templates?

  • This is something we’re very interested in and actively working on. We don’t have more concrete details to share right now, but you can

Will the App Interaction trigger get access to loops and conditions?

  • The current App Interaction trigger – which is actually Custom Actions under a new name – will not receive the new loop and condition steps.

Will the new Workflow triggers become available to legacy plans?

  • No. You will need to upgrade to the latest Maker or Business plan to access the new Schedule, Email, and Webhook triggers.

Have additional questions or comments? Drop them in this thread.

Thank you!

Hi thanks for the summary video! I believe i’m on the latest Maker plan and I’m able to view the new “workflow triggers”. However, I can’t seem to find loops & conditions for normal “App Interactions” trigger in my Workflow builder? Am I missing something?

That’s because they don’t exist for App Interaction triggers.
They only exist for the new workflow types: Scheduled, Webhook, Email.
