Do SQL queries consume updates?

I’m looking to use either Glide Big Tables or a SQL connection. I understand that Big Tables do NOT consume updates on my account.
Do SQL queries count against my account update limits?

Basically any data source external to glide will use updates because they need additional back end connections to transfer and sync data.

I just read this today - PostgreSQL | Glide Docs

And in the FAQ at the bottom found this calling out about querying data not consuming updates:
