Row ID vs Item ID

Is there a difference/different use case between using ROW ID in data editor vs. creating a Unique ID column in Sheet?

I have gone through this part of the library but these seem to be used interchangeably?

I only use row ID now because I have not been able to tell that there is any advantage to using the unique ID. Row ID lives in the editor and you can just turn it on in a couple of clicks. To create a unique or what you referred to as item ID, you create a column in the sheet, and then when you want to use it you use the special value unique ID and select that column in the sheet for the data.
