# What would it take to get videos working in Glideapps?

Hey Glideapps CEO and Senior management.
What would it take to get a basic video player to work in glideapps?
At the moment this basic feature is failing to work even after using different methods and talking to experts here in this forum.
Please advice

I don’t use videos much in my apps, but recently I received a request for that exactly. Videos don’t work in Glide? I thought a YouTube link would work fine and thus display the YouTube video player, is that not the case?

Hey Nathan,
You can link and upload videos, but they just don’t play. The experience with this feature feels unpolished—it seems like it should be straightforward, but it’s not. I’m honestly surprised they haven’t fixed this by now and turned it into a solid, fully functional feature at this stage of the company.

Glide storage is not optimised for streaming video, and it’s not recommended to host videos in Glide.

So whats the solution how do we fix this? as nothing mentioned in the guide is useful or works.

The solution is to host your videos elsewhere - somewhere like Youtube or Vimeo.

I just tested a random YouTube URL. I used the one found when clicking on “Share” on Youtube, not the URL in the address bar.
(And I’m happy I made it back here to the forum, somehow I escaped the YouTube blackhole.)
Darren just posted a note about video hosting on Glide. I’ve always assumed that videos are to be hosted on a video platform, exactly as explained in the note. But I would expect the videos to play seamlessly, since in the end the URL points to a player that is supposed to play the video.
I just did a test and did notice that if the URL is saved in a “text” basic column, the video won’t play. Fair enough. For some reason when I paste the URL in the text column, a moment later the URL string is replaced by a ‘0’. I would at least have preferred to see the URL stick and the component to not recognize the URL as a URL.
The URL _does_ stick when using a “rich text” column type, or a “URL” column type. These are clearly expected to work when hosting URLs.
Other than this finding, the video component seems to work as expected.

If everything is working fine and as expected, what is the feature request for?
We have a confirmation that the video component is working fine which is good news, you got me worried there for a second. 🙂

The feature request was for this very result we got to day as last two months this did not work consistently at all. I might have gotten lucky on today’s test however i will keep an eye on it.

I’ve used Glide for a livestream application and that worked perfectly.
We had a boxing event, hooked up OBS to 3 4k camera’s, limited OBS to 1080p, got the OBS into the application through a web embed. Seemed to work as needed.
For basic video’s, might be better to host it on a CDN and then implement it into Glide. I’m not sure what problems you’re facing.

We used vidnoz project in AI. It’s not from Russia but EU. ([vidnoz.com](http://vidnoz.com))
I recommend it, it’s very good mp4 and Ai video startup to put into web embed.

I use AWS S3. For small-scale operations, it’s free.
