# Marking items on a checklist changes them to "true"

Hi! This is probably an obvious thing I’m mixing up but I can’t figure it out from the existing articles – when I mark items off in my shopping list, they are changed to “true” – both in the spreadsheet and in the app! Help?

Make sure your checkbox is updating the correct column. Looks like you have it set to update the boolean value in the List item name column instead of a separate column to hold the boolean checkbox value.
