# How to eliminate a screen title besides using empty characters? Leaving it blank does not work

Title always defaults to first choice in the list

Can you click and select “custom” - it eliminates the screen title.

@Deena Hmm. that’s what _is_ selected. I’m wondering if it doesn’t work on inline lists.

I have occasionally had that happen. I create a column in the sheet, it has a title but the rows are blank or maybe I put a space. Try that?

I’ll give it shot, thanks Deena! A space doesn’t work. [Empty characters](https://emptycharacter.com/) do but I’ve had them break stuff for me in the past so I avoid.

What kind of stuff has it broken? I use Empty Character quite a bit, but I haven’t noticed any side effects.

@Jeff_Hager I’ve used it once in template columns to add margin and I believe it caused issues in the card layout of the inline list I was binding that column. Second time was in an avatar text field. This was ~2-3 wks ago.
