# Custom CSS code crashes app

Following the thread here: [Customize container column width with CSS](https://community.glideapps.com/t/customize-container-column-width-with-css/74636/1)

Implemented the suggestions exactly, and found that upon publishing the app is unable to load and stuck on a black screen. I don’t get too many obvious things in the browser console other than: `Error building column: Column not found.`

The users in thread seem to have found success in implementing the custom CSS component on their page. One question I have is whether or not I should set the renderer to something other than HTML, but those haven’t seemed to fix the problem.

Any pointers as to why this would happen?

I figured out this is likely my mistake in using the `Code` component. 🤦‍♂️

What do you mean by the Code component? Do you mean the Custom Component that is in Beta?

I assume you have found the answer that you go to Settings \> Appearance to add the CSS code in there, is that what you need?

Yes, I was using the wrong beta component. I have just upgraded and was confused about which one to use but I figured it out. Thanks!
