Take a look at [dillinger.io](http://dillinger.io) for some advice on markdown formatting.

Also check out the following thread.  
Some people type char(10) in the text in their google sheet. I like to use 2 spaces and CTRL-Enter (or ⌘-Enter for Mac) for a line break. There is other formatting such as bulleted lists and font sizes that you can control. The [dillinger.io](http://dillinger.io) link is good for visualizing that.
