Apple has just released the first beta of iOS and iPadOS 16.4, and with it comes support for Web Push and other features for Home Screen web apps. This exciting update means that web developers can now create a manifest file to turn their website into a Home Screen web app, which will open just like any other app on iOS and iPadOS.

One of the most significant features in this update is support for Web Push for Home Screen web apps. This means that web developers can now send push notifications to their users via the use of Push API, Notifications API, and Service Workers. The notifications work exactly like notifications from other apps, showing up on the Lock Screen, in Notification Center, and even on a paired Apple Watch.

Other new features for Home Screen web apps in this beta include support for the Badging API, the ability to use a Screen Wake Lock API to keep the screen on, and a Screen Orientation API to control the orientation of the screen. Users can also configure notifications for Home Screen web apps based on their concentration using the new Focus support.

Check out the comprehensive list of new features and fixes in the Safari 16.4 beta 1 release notes for more information. You can also read the official announcement from WebKit on their blog.

We hope that the Glide Apps team will consider adding support for these new features to their roadmap, as they could offer exciting new possibilities for app developers on their platform.

Hi @nocodefarmer

> Not sure which category to push this in. Apple is finally allowing this! Starting in iOS 16.4, web apps saved to the home screen can now use push notifications. The web app cannot automatically force a push notification request message, the user has to interact with the app (for example, a button click), then the request to allow push notifications will come up. Apple says they’ll work the same as regular app notifications, and can even show notification badges on the app icon. I just always se…
